Meet Juliana Kodama, DMD

Dr. Juliana Kodama brings a warm presence, a genuine love for the craftsmanship of dentistry, and a passion for lifelong learning to Eckland Family Dentistry. She approaches each visit with a relaxed, low-key energy so patients never feel rushed or stressed, especially those who feel anxious in the chair, and she takes the time to build rapport before diving into treatment planning.

Dr. Kodama earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola Marymount University before completing her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She went on to complete a General Practice Residency at the Puget Sound VA in Seattle, where she gained oral surgery experience, including implant placement, bone grafting, and complex extractions, along with training in removable and fixed prosthetics, and periodontal and endodontic procedures. That residency also deepened her comfort treatment planning for patients with more complex medical histories, an approach she now brings to every new patient exam at our Woodinville office.

A Comprehensive, Whole Body Approach to Care

Dr. Kodama’s residency training reinforced a philosophy already central to how our team practices dentistry: the mouth does not exist in isolation from the rest of the body. She looks closely at how oral health connects to overall wellness, including links between chronic inflammation in the mouth and broader health concerns like cardiovascular disease, and she uses that understanding to guide her risk-based approach to treatment.

Rather than treating a single symptom, Dr. Kodama tries to understand the full picture of what is happening in a patient’s mouth and how it fits into their broader health. She finds it especially rewarding when a comprehensive exam uncovers something a patient did not expect, and she is motivated by the idea that thoughtful, thorough care today can prevent bigger problems later.

Areas of Focus and Clinical Interests

Coming out of her residency, Dr. Kodama developed a strong interest in oral surgery and implant dentistry, an area she is looking forward to growing at our practice. She also has a passion for cosmetic dentistry, with an eye for results that look natural while still restoring full function.

For Dr. Kodama, aesthetics and function go hand in hand. A smile should look great, but it also needs to work well for everyday life, and she takes pride in treatment plans that accomplish both. She brings that same attention to detail to routine care, always aiming to make patients feel informed and comfortable with their options.

A Passion for Community Dental Care

Beyond the office, Dr. Kodama has stayed closely involved in community dentistry. She has participated in the Seattle King County Dental Clinic’s annual free clinic and has traveled to Kenya on mission trips to provide emergency dental care to underserved communities, including extractions and other urgent treatment for patients who otherwise have limited access to care.

That drive to give back mirrors the same motivation that keeps her learning. She has a passion to deliver the highest quality care through a commitment to learning and pursuing continued education to stay up to date with the most advanced techniques and recommendations. This mindset aligns with our practice’s commitment to excellent dentistry and preventative care.

Life Outside the Office

Dr. Kodama grew up in the Seattle area and attended Roosevelt High School before heading to Los Angeles for college and Florida for dental school. After several years away, she is happy to be back home in the Pacific Northwest. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, bouldering, and skiing, and she recently completed the Seattle half marathon.

She also has a shih-tzu named Lucky, a sweet and laid-back dog who has been known to make an appearance around the office. Between her love of the outdoors and her commitment to giving back through community dental care, Dr. Kodama brings warmth and genuine care to both her work and her life outside of it.
